Chelsea Clinton accuses Bannon of 'fat shaming' Spicer

White House chief strategist Steve Bannon "fat shamed" press secretary Sean Spicer, Chelsea Clinton has said.

"But look, it's no secret that we've had a few vacancies, including our communications director, who's been gone for a while", Spicer said.

White House correspondents insist briefings need to be held on-camera as a way to hold administrations accountable, especially given that Trump does not hold pressers himself - his last news conference was in February. Many have noted that Spicer has been appearing on camera less in recent weeks, with his deputy Sanders frequently replacing him during press briefings.

The Associated Press reported that Mr Spicer has reached out to his possible successors and candidates for the role of communications director. Still, despite these rampant reports, Spicer continues to maintain his position, however tenuous, as the mouthpiece of the White House.

When pressed further on the issue, Spicer doubled down on his claim that he has not "sat down and asked" the president about the Russian hacking.

During past administrations, the press secretary spent hours prepping for the briefing, often by querying the president personally in order to speak properly on his behalf.

The briefings, formerly a mostly unwatched event in the Obama administration, have been carried by major news networks since day one of Trump's presidency.

Be proactive - Use the "Flag as Inappropriate" link at the upper right corner of each comment to let us know of abusive posts. "If he's not going to come out and answer the questions, and if they're not going to do this on camera or audio, why are we even having these briefings or these gaggles in the first place?"

Pressed on what Trump wants the final GOP-backed health care bill to contain, Spicer said, "he clearly wants a bill that has heart in it".

When asked by Burnett if she thinks Trump fabricated the whole thing back in May, the California lawmaker stated: "I absolutely do".
