Mattel's New Ken Doll Has Cornrows, Geek Glasses, Even Killer Abs!

Many Twitter users seem to be feeling Mattel having more relatable dolls...

"By continuing to expand our product line, we are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation", Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and general manager for Barbie, said in a statement.

The nation's largest toymaker Mattel announced on Tuesday that they will be producing new versions of Ken - Barbie's lifelong companion - and these new Kens will have a slightly different look.

Now, it's Barbie's boyfriend Ken's turn to get a fresh, 21st-century makeover.

According to GQ.com, there will be an "original"-size Ken with cornrows a "slim" Ken with a fade, a mixed-race Ken with a man bun, Asian Kens, Latino Kens, a pale white Ken and a tan white Ken, a Ken who is wearing a watch and a Ken who is "broad".

Good Morning America revealed this morning there will soon be 15 new Ken dolls available for purchase: these aren't like regular Ken dolls, they're cool Ken dolls that will come in three different body types, seven different skin tones, and nine different hairstyles.

A year ago they introduced new Barbie dolls with different body types, skin tones, and hair textures.

While Barbie is a character within herself, she is known for her relationship with Ken-who, until now, has been created as a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, tan, muscular doll.

Mattel debuted the Ken doll in 1961.

The new line of dolls are available online at Barbie.com starting today and will be rolling out at retailers nationwide.
