Minnesota Releases Video of Philando Castile Shooting

Officer Yanez instructs Mr Castile not to pull out his handgun before suddenly drawing his own weapon and firing seven rounds into the vehicle.

Castile had a legal permit to carry a gun.

But the police DID have dash cam footage, and they waited until Jeronimo Yanez was acquitted to release it.

"I'm not pulling it out", Castile says. Up until now, all we had seen is the controversial Facebook Live video. Shortly thereafter, Castile is heard telling Yanez about a firearm in the vehicle.

As Castile finished speaking, Yanez could then be seen with his hand on his own gun and shouting "Don't pull it out!" before firing seven shots into the auto.

But Diamond Reynolds, Castile's girlfriend who was in the passenger seat, said Castile was reaching for his driver's license and registration, not the gun.

After Castile gives him the paperwork, he's heard saying "sir, I have to tell you that I do have a firearm on me". After warning Castile multiple times not to pull out his gun, Yanez shot Castile.

The dashcam video lined up with Reynolds' claims on Facebook Live that Castile had assured the officer he wasn't reaching for his gun - though Yanez neglected to mention the assurance in his interview. "He was just staring straight ahead and I was gettin' fuckin' nervous and then I told him..." But the police officer later told investigators that he feared for his life.

Reynolds' young daughter, who was in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting, then exits through the passenger side, and the other officer on the scene picks her up and carries her out of view. Here's a quick rundown of what's shown - and not shown - in the video.

The video includes audio from a microphone Yanez was wearing and a conversation he had with his supervisor about the shooting.

Yanez: Don't reach for it then.

The shooting on July 6 a year ago, in the Minneapolis suburb of Falcon Heights, gained widespread attention because Mr Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, live-streamed its gruesome aftermath on Facebook. Eighteen people were arrested. 'And a murderer gets away. "I couldn't get a look at the other passenger, and I'll wait for you".

The city of St. Anthony announced Friday Yanez was being dismissed from its police force, despite the acquittal.

But prosecutors insisted Yanez never saw the gun and say he overreacted to a non-threat.

Most revealing, perhaps, about the newly released video are the voices that can be clearly heard on it - a calm, polite discussion at first, and then, in seconds, a sudden burst of tension and shots.
