Tropical Storm Cindy to move toward Louisiana soon

Tropical Storm Cindy to move toward Louisiana soon

The storm is expected to dump at least two to four inches of rain on the central part of the state, Satterwhite said.

Oktibbeha County Emergency Management Director Shank Phelps told the SDN it is still too early to tell how much rain the area will get from the storm, but said people across the region need to be sure to keep up with local weather and social media in case the situation intensifies.

The First Alert Weather team is continuing to monitor the storm, now named Potential Tropical Cyclone 3.

"Some slight strengthening is expected during the next 24 hours".

Storm Surge Watch: The possibility of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the shoreline somewhere within the specified area, generally within 48 hours, in association with an ongoing or potential tropical cyclone, a subtropical cyclone, or a post-tropical cyclone.

The tropical storm warning is in effect from Intracoastal City, Louisiana, to the mouth of the Pearl River, which includes lower portions of Lafourche, St. Bernard and Jefferson parishes.

A tropical system is moving north up the Gulf of Mexico, heading toward the Louisiana Gulf Coast, and forecasters say the disturbance is becoming better organized.

TORNADOES: Isolated tornadoes are possible this evening and tonight from south-central Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle. Heavy rainfall from storm can be pulled northeastward into Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the Florida Panhandle as the week progresses.

Forecasters expect it to resume a northwest track at about 10 miles per hour.

The Gulf of Mexico is home to about 17 percent of U.S. crude output and 5 percent of dry natural gas output daily, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. A tropical storm watch remained in effect for the Dutch Caribbean islands of Bonaire, Curacao and Aruba.

The location of the storm at 10 a.m. on Tuesday was about 265 miles south of Morgan City, LA, and about 355 miles southeast of Galveston, TX. Should the storm jog farther west than the upper Texas coast, then flooding rainfall could extend farther south along the Texas coast.

Tropical Storm Bret, a storm system that was upgraded late Monday, will continue its northwestern track. Motion to the northwest is expected at around 10 miles per hour.
