Trump decries 'witch hunt' even as lawyer insists no probe

Trump decries 'witch hunt' even as lawyer insists no probe

President Donald Trump is beginning his day with a stream of tweets defending his record and lashing out at the investigation into Russian interference in the election.

Rubio said "a full and thorough and credible investigation that reveals everything" is "the best thing that can happen for everybody", including Trump.

A source on Trump's legal team claimed the president was referring to a Washington Post story "from the other night" rather than confirming he is being investigated.

"Witch hunt" is how Trump characterizes the probe into Russia's election interference and possible ties to his campaign associates.

On Sunday, Trump again referred to the probe, but dismissed it as a "distraction".

"There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know", Sekulow said.

Mueller is also looking at whether, if any potential offenses were committed, Trump or others attempted to cover them up or obstruct the investigation into them, said one USA official on Thursday who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Trump wrote, "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

Special counsel Robert Mueller is overseeing the investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 USA election.

Angus King, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, estimated that investigators are just 20 percent into their probe, which could last for months.

"I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

Trump returned to the White House on Sunday after spending Father s Day weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat. "Military runs it so well and are so proud of what they do!" he posted.
