Trump lawyer says president not under investigation, despite tweets

President Donald Trump, whose combative instincts are to lash out and never retreat, appears to be shaping a legal team in his own image.

"Those reports in The Washington Post were false", Sekulow said. In the subsequent furor over Comey's dismissal - largely stoked by Trump's conflicting reasons for firing the director, which first adopted but then parted company with Rosenstein's memo - Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel. Tweet or no tweet, the president is not under investigation, according to Sekulow. But there is no hard-and-fast rule requiring a potential defendant to be advised of an investigation and his or her role in it.

"To say, "Comey told him he's not under investigation, so he can't be" - that's illogical", Cuomo said. "Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations", Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said.

Sekulow also defended Trump's use of social media, saying he does not tell him what to write or not write, after the president last week tweeted that he was under investigation for firing Comey.

A simple tweet from President Donald Trump is keeping the Russian Federation investigation in the headlines.

Sekulow concluded that the president can't be investigated for obstruction of justice, because he had full authority to fire Comey - something the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director himself pointed out in his testimony. There are reports that special counsel Robert Mueller will in charge of a new investigation into Trump's ties and his aide's ties to Russian Federation.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday, June 20th that he expects an announcement "this week" on the possibility of tapes.

Mueller's probe is in its earliest stages and the idea he had narrowed the investigation down to one person is absurd.

The president tweeted last week he was being investigated, but a member of his legal team denied that.

The president has directed some of his frustration at Rosenstein and Mueller. Sen.

Other Republicans disagree. Republican Senators James Lankford, Susan Collins, and Marco Rubio-who all sit on the Senate Intelligence Committee-have said that the investigations should proceed. "The best thing that could happen for the president, and the country, is a full and credible investigation". Trump fired Comey in May and has suggested - but refused to confirm - that he may have tapes of his discussions with Comey.

When pressed, Schiff said that he's "not prepared to say that there's proof you could take to a jury" but "that there is enough that we ought to be investigating".

"Fairly interesting that Kushner is putting together a more serious legal team than the president is", MSNBC Justice and Security Analyst Matthew Miller noted on Twitter.

"This is going to move forward".

Both Coats and Rogers declined before the Senate intelligence committee earlier this month to answer questions about their conversations with Trump, but both said they had never felt urged by Trump to intervene in the Russian Federation probes. It also sent a letter to Mr Comey asking for notes or memos. "No, he's not being investigated", the president's lawyer said.
