White House press secretary Sean Spicer expected to take less public role

White House press secretary Sean Spicer is seeking to take on a more strategic role that would give him a limited presence in the daily press briefings that have made him a prominent face of the Trump administration.

Asked about reports from 16 USA intelligence agencies that determined the Russians indeed meddled in the United States election, the press secretary emphasized he had not spoken with Trump about the topic.

Asked if the president has seen the Senate GOP's proposal for health care, Spicer replied, "I don't know that".

Ingraham wouldn't be the first Fox News personality to take on the role of White House press secretary. "As he did in the beginning, Sean Spicer is managing both the communications and press office", said Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a deputy White House press secretary.

The current press secretary dodged a question on Tuesday about whether he would leave his job for another White House role soon.

The White House actually held an on-camera briefing Tuesday with none other than Sean Spicer.

However, there is no opportunity on those occasions for reporters to question President Trump or his administration officials.

Trump often rails on the media and refers to certain networks or articles as "fake news". "We're here really early in the morning and really late at night available to all your questions, whether in person or over email".

"You get assertion but no argument".

"When we have an announcement of a personnel nature, we will let you know".

Spicer spoke Monday from the podium at an off-camera gaggle that barred broadcast outlets from using the audio of the question-and-answer session.

When asked Tuesday if Trump believed Russian Federation interfered with the 2016 presidential election, as the USA intelligence community determined in January, Spicer said he wasn't sure.

The press secretary said he didn't know whether Trump or anyone on his staff has read the Senate health care bill that GOP lawmakers are now drafting behind closed doors.

White House communications officials "obviously feel it has ceased to pay dividends" to follow their predecessors' press strategy, said Eric Dezenhall, who worked on President Ronald Reagan's communications team and leads a public relations firm in Washington.

Spicer was asked Tuesday to address reports about his potential job change.
