Di María Fined for Spanish Tax Fraud

Following speculations that Real Madrid's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will move to Manchester United, the English club's head coach, Jose Mourinho has expressed his interest in the footballer's teammate Alvaro Morata, instead of Ronaldo himself.

They claim that Mourinho, who took over at United past year, failed to declare 3.3 million euros ($3.7m, £2.9m) during his time in the Spanish capital - 1.6 million euros in 2011 and 1.7 million euros in 2012.

In addition, they say he only declared 11.5 million euros of Spanish-related income from 2011 to 2014, while what he really earned during that time was close to 43 million euros.

The statement also said that Mourinho had received a certificate from the authorities confirming that he was "up to date with all his tax obligations".

According to Marca, Mourinho doesn't want Ronaldo, with suggestions that their patchy previous relationship or a distrust from the manager on the player's motivation to leave Real put down as possible reasons by the Spanish publication.

Cristiano Ronaldo is facing tax fraud allegations in the Spanish court.

Rumour and counter rumour are rife in the European sports press as Ronaldo appears to be set on leaving Real Madrid and Spain due to frustration over perceived unfair treatment by tax officials.

Bernardo, who completed a £43.6m transfer from AS Monaco to Manchester City before this tournament, began on the right flank, where he caused constant havoc for the Russians by cutting inside onto his stronger left, playing incisive balls to Ronaldo and Andre Silva.

Both Ronaldo and Mourinho are represented by Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes.

The prosecutor said last Tuesday that there was evidence that Ronaldo used a shell company in the Virgin Islands to hide the money he had made from image rights.

Ronaldo has denied the charges.

It will now be up to a judge to decide whether to take Mourinho to court.

Spanish publication Diariogol report that Barcelona forward Neymar - who faced similar charges over image rights earlier this year - has been chatting to Ronnie via WhatsApp, casting aside the club rivalry to offer his support in this hard time.

He won't spend any time behind bars because sentences of under two years in Spain are suspended provided that the convicted person has no criminal record.

Di Maria has been given a suspended one-year jail sentence and fined 2.23 million U.S. dollars for tax fraud in Spain.
