Bill Cosby 'in good spirits' as he awaits trial verdict

Jury deliberations have entered a third day in the Bill Cosby sexual assault trial.

A four-hour deliberation followed after Monday's hearings, but observers have not been able to glean much from the faces of the jurors as to determine what their leanings could be.

Though dozens of women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct, only Constand's accusations led to criminal charges. In that deposition, Cosby, according to testimony, admitted he obtained Quaaludes to give to women with whom he wanted to have sex in the 1970s.

Constand alleges Cosby gave her three sedatives he claimed were an herbal remedy and then groped her breast and genitals while she was paralyzed and unable to fight him off. Cosby said he was in a romantic relationship with the young staffer on the women's basketball team at his alma mater, Temple University, and that the encounter was consensual. On Tuesday, the jury heard the officer say he told Constand he wanted "an initial account" and a "narrative of events". He did not testify during the trial, but Constand did, speaking publicly about the alleged incident for the first time as she took the witness stand last week (ends09Jun17).

Constand told the court in Norristown, Pennsylvania last week that the assault left her humiliated by someone she had thought of as a friend and mentor. "I am not stopped" (Constand denies sexual activity; she testified she rebuffed Cosby when he touched her trousers by leaning forward).

Cosby, who earned the nickname America's Dad for his role as Dr. Cliff Huxtable on television's "The Cosby Show", maintains the sexual contact was consensual in statements to police and in depositions given after Constand filed a civil lawsuit against him in federal court.

On Friday, he took to the steps to float the idea that Cosby might testify when the defense case opened on Monday. Prosecutors rejected filing a case against Cosby based on Goins' allegations, which they said investigators could not corroborate.

The defense's case followed a riveting week from the prosecution which saw Ms. Constand take the stand.

"The reason I called [my attorney Marty] Singer", Mr. Cosby told the police in 2005 of his now-former attorney, "is that I didn't trust the mother". In the deposition, which became public almost two years ago, Mr. Cosby said he gave Ms. Constand three half-tablets of the cold and allergy medicine Benadryl. Authorities had declined to charge Cosby when she first came forward in 2005. (She later revised that detail.) The inconsistency suggested the jury was interested in examining Constand's credibility.

Besides Constand, the fourth day of the trial on Friday, June 9, was attended by two other Cosby accusers, Victoria Valantino and Linda Kirkpatrick.

Cosby greeted onlookers while exiting his sport utility vehicle at the Montgomery County courthouse on Wednesday, and an aide to the 79-year-old entertainer carried a pillow in preparation for what could be another long day. The district attorney at the time declined to press charges, citing insufficient evidence. The actress' conversation on Today regarding the Bill Cosby rape trial can be viewed below.

Constand initially settled the case with a civil suit in 2006, having waited a year to report the alleged assault to the police.
