Deadpool gives Wilderpeople's Julian Dennison a piggyback ride

As principal photography of Fox's Deadpool sequel gets under way in Vancouver, star Ryan Reynolds has a surprise up his sleeve - or, rather, on his back.

Just how much fun is Ryan Reynolds having making Deadpool 2?

On Tuesday night, Reynolds revealed that Julian Dennison, an actor from New Zealand best known for starring in Taika Waititi's 2016 movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople, would be joining the cast of Deadpool 2.

The image along with the "future together" comment has sparked rumours that Dennison will play a part in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.

Reynolds made the announcement as he suited up as the Merc with the Mouth to give Dennison, the actor behind Ricky Baker, a piggyback.

The image is an homage to a classic scene from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, which was hilariously recreated past year by Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley.

Dennison first captured our hearts and our amusing bones with his role as Ricky Baker in Taika Waititi's hilarious and touching ode to the New Zealand brush in Hunt for the Wilderpeople - one of the best movies of 2016.

Deadpool 2 is now slated for release in June of next year.
