Hugh Jackman is PT Barnum in dazzling The Greatest Showman trailer

It tells the story of eccentric boss PT Barnum, played by Jackman, who ran the Ringling Bros. circus in the mid 1800's.

20th Century Fox has released the first official trailer for The Greatest Showman, giving us our first look at Hugh Jackman's upcoming true story/musical.

Reportedly, it's a musical, though the first trailer hints around that, instead focusing on Barnum's days in dire circumstances before he comes up with the idea of a very diverse circus and "show business" itself. "Every one of us is special, and nobody is like anyone else".

Directed by Michael Gracey and featuring songs from Oscar and Tony winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen), the film follows Barnum from his poverty-stricken childhood to the launch of his first circus in NY.

The trailer shows Hugh's character losing his job after his company is left bankrupt, so he instead falls into a life in showbiz.

"Why not? You clearly have a flair for show business", Jackman, who plays Barnum, responds.

"Because I just invented it", Barnum says with a beam.

The Greatest Showman is set to hit USA theaters on December 25, 2017, and then expand wide in 2018. Behind the camera for the project is Australian film and commercial director, Michael Gracey. In addition to starring in the film, Jackman was involved behind the scenes on The Greatest Showman, serving as one of its producers.
