MA leaders consider state impact of US Senate health care bill

"But for the country, we have to have health care, and it can't be Obamacare which is melting down", Trump said, as dozens of lawmakers sat grim-faced around a White House conference table.

Are Montana's Republicans ready for what their new president and the Republican Congress is going to do for them and to us?

Malloy's budget office said the cuts to Medicaid, Planned Parenthood, and other changes would initially mean the loss of $21.4 million over the next two fiscal years, less than the version the House approved last month. "We'll look to see where it goes after today".

Minority Whip Steny Hoyer told reporters Tuesday morning that the Democrats are "a very united party" that is "focused on the health care issue for the American people".

The Republican Party's long-promised repeal of "Obamacare" stands in limbo after Senate GOP leaders, short of support, abruptly shelved a vote on legislation aimed at redeeming the pledge.

A telltale: One of the main Republican complaints about Obamacare has been that the deductibles and co-pays under ACA policies are too high.

Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson is considered a crucial vote in the Senate and has been very vocal with his concerns about the bill.

"There are provisions in this draft that represent an improvement to our current health care system but it does not appear this draft as written will accomplish the most important promise that we made to Americans: to repeal Obamacare and lower their health care costs", reads the statement. Twenty-one percent of Republicans oppose the bill and just 35 percent support it. Sixty-eight percent of independents also oppose the proposed legislation.

Three Republican senators announced their opposition to the current draft of the Senate health care bill Tuesday afternoon, shortly after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell chose to delay a vote on the plan until after the July 4 recess.

The Senate Republican health care bill would leave 22 million more people uninsured by 2026, according to projections of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.

At least five Republican senators - conservatives and moderates - have said they would vote against even beginning debate, and the bill would be derailed if just three of the 52 Republican senators voted against it.

Democrats remained united in opposition, blasting the Senate bill as a tax break for the wealthy.

But Trump also conceded the possibility that the health bill wouldn't pass. "We're getting very close", Trump told the senators. "The idea is to give people more choice, to have competition in the market".

"I think you saw what Democrats are doing".

One of the opponents, Senator Susan Collins of the northeastern state of ME, said proposed funding cuts of almost $800 billion in Medicaid, the government's health care program for the poor, "hurt the most vulnerable Americans" and that access to health care in rural parts of her state would be threatened.

Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul met with the President again Tuesday.
