Man thrashed in Jharkhand, house set ablaze after dead cow found

According to the police, a mob attacked the house of Usman Ansari at Beria Hatiatand village in Deori area, almost 200 km from Ranchi, on Tuesday after some people spotted the carcass of a cow. The police reached the spot as soon as they got the news, but before that the man was already thrashed and a part of his house was set on fire.

A man was beaten up and his house was set on fire in Bariabad of Jharkhand's Giridih district on Tuesday, after the carcass of a cow was allegedly found outside his house, media reports said. The mob, which had swelled to almost 1,000 in a span of 30 minutes, had beaten up Ansari and set fire to a part of his house by the time the police reached the spot.

The man has been identified as Usman Ansari of Beria Hatiatand village. About 50 policemen are also reported injured in the stone throwing. As per the latest reports, the victim has been admitted to hospital and his family has been moved to a safer location under police protection. "We had to open fire in the air", reads the statement of Jharkhand police spokesman R K Mullik. Ansari was taken to a local hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.

Police had to ask for reinforcements and it took them two hours to bring the situation under control, Giridih deputy commissioner Uma Shankar Singh said.




According to police sources, the cow belonged which belonged to Ansari had died of illness.

A case was registered at Deori police station and an investigation has been launched into the incident, the official said.

In April, a Muslim dairy farmer was lynched in Rajasthan for allegedly smuggling cows.
