Michelle Rodriguez Calls Out 'Fast And Furious' For Sexism, Threatens To Leave

Is Rodriguez bidding farewell to the highly successful movie franchise?

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Rodriguez expressed her frustration with the limited roles women have in the franchise.

The world is seemingly in love with the Fast and Furious franchise no matter how bad the films get.

"It's been a good ride and I'm grateful for the opportunity the fans and studio have provided over the years".

Letty has become particularly vital in the franchises most recent films, Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious, as Letty and Dom have circled back to their complicated love story. "I think that's pathetic and it's lack of creativity".

This is not the first time Rodriguez has criticized the high-octane series for its male-centric tone.

Charlize Theron, Nathalie Emmanuel, Devon Aoki and Helen Mirren have also appeared in the Fast & Furious franchise in key roles during its 16 year history.

Fast & Furious actress Michelle Rodriguez says she may leave the franchise if its female stars are not treated better on screen.

"I basically cried and said, I'm going to quit and, 'Don't sue me, please-I'm sorry, but I can't do this in front of millions of people", she said.

Her message is loud and clear, give women their due.

Rodriguez's dissatisfaction with the current state of female characters in the high-octane franchise comes as no great surprise. This is especially true when one considers that Rodriguez and Vin Diesel are technically the last remaining original characters following Paul Walker's death, which saw his character written out of the series, and Jordana Brewster not being part of the last installment as her character is off with Walker's in retirement bliss.

"At the end of the day, the only leverage I have as an individual is my participation".

The Fate of the Furious was released in April and has grossed over $1bn at the worldwide box office, with a combined gross of the eight-film series to over $5bn globally. That's the only leverage I ever use with anything.
