Vettel Says F1's Proposed Protective Shield Made Him "A Bit Dizzy"

Vettel Says F1's Proposed Protective Shield Made Him

The device, which the FIA is seeking to introduce next year, having ruled out the Halo and Red Bull's Aeroscreen, made its public debut in today's opening session at Silverstone.

Speaking after practice, Vettel revealed he had planned to do more running with the device but asked for it to be removed because he didn't like it. Forward vision is not very good.

"I think we can improve a bit in qualifying".

"It's probably because of the curvature, you get quite a bit of distortion, plus you get quite a bit of downwash down the straights pushing the helmet forwards".

"We had a run plan with it but I didnt like it so we took it off".

Asked if he was able to easily get in and out of the auto, Vettel added: "For sure it doesn't help". "It doesn't help. Getting in doesn't matter. Since the first practice the balance of the auto was not too far away, but there's definitely more work to do to get the vehicle more driveable, to be able to trust it more in the high speed corners", Bottas said.

The shield is due to be tested again at the Italian Grand Prix in September.

From a Ferrari point of view, Vettel was also testing an upgraded power unit on Friday but says he is yet to explore its full potential.

"It should [help Ferrari]".

"I'm definitely impressed by the new cars on this track, in the high-speed corners they are so much quicker than before", Bottas said.
