Chelsea and Liverpool in a battle to sign £65m striker

Chelsea and Liverpool in a battle to sign £65m striker

The two Premier League giants are in a "tug of war" according to The Sun, and have both made contact with the Bundesliga club regarding a potential transfer.

Liverpool are claimed to be in pole position due to Jurgen Klopp relationship with the player, but the club's American owners are believed to be reluctant to meet the club's £65m valuation, or the players £180,000-a-week wage demands.

Borussia Dortmund's forward has been the center of interest from top clubs this summer after his 40 goals last season in all competitions.

Antonio Conte who is the handler of the Blues wants an experienced replacement for Spanish striker Diego Costa who is set to leave Stamford Bridge.

The future of Diego Costa also still remains uncertain with the Spanish worldwide reportedly favoring a return to former club Atletico Madrid.

But they are now having to explore alternative targets after Manchester United hijacked their bid for the Belgium worldwide.

Chelsea are expected to launch a £140million attack to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea desperately need that kind of quality up front next season as Costa looks closer to returning to Atletico after being left out of the Blues' squad for the start of pre-season. Tianjin Quanjian have been heavily linked with a move for the 28-year-old as well, but with the mid-season transfer window in China closing on 14th July there simply isn't the time for any deal to happen.
