Sabrett hot dog maker recalling 7 million pounds of product

Sabrett hot dog maker recalling 7 million pounds of product

The recall applies to the Sabrett products with a sell-by date ranging from June 19 to October 6, the company said.

A U.S. Department of Agriculture news release said that the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service started receiving complaints on July 10 stating that "extraneous material, specifically pieces of bone, were found within the product".

NY based Marathon Enterprises Inc., the brand's parent company, reported 7,196,084 pounds of beef and pork hot dogs, sausages and salami are affected, the USDA said in a release.

The food-safety agency says the products subject to recall are stamped "EST. 8854" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

One person reported a minor mouth injury after eating one of the foods, the FSIS said. According to the USDA, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

A large recall involving hot dog products was issued Saturday. These items were shipped nationwide. It is recommended that you contact a healthcare provider if you are concerned about an injury or illness.

It hasn't been a very comforting year for hot dog eaters.

Consumers with questions about the recall can call John Terminello, consumer relations, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.to 5:15 p.m., at 1-800-SABRETT.

Sabrett says its hot dogs are sold at many arenas, concert venues and convention centers across the country, including New York's Madison Square Garden.
