'The deception is mind-boggling'

'The deception is mind-boggling'

It's rare for a Democratic lawmaker to thank a Fox News host, but that's exactly what Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) did after Fox News anchor Shepard Smith ripped the Trump administration's handling of the investigations into Russian election meddling.

This morning we were greeted by the news that an ex-Soviet spy, identified as Rinat Akhmetshin, also attended the meeting arranged by Donald Trump Jr. with a Russian lawyer in order to gather dirt on Hillary Clinton from the Russian government.

Wallace's and Smith's takes on the Russian Federation controversy plaguing Trump's presidency are very different from that of their colleagues on the network, including conservative host Sean Hannity, who recently interviewed Trump Jr., and the hosts of the morning show "Fox & Friends".

At one point, he even seemed to directly address his Fox viewers to remind them that, no, this isn't fake news.

Smith couldn't hide his contempt as he talked to fellow FNC anchor Chris Wallace, noting the tide has turned and even Trump stalwarts now acknowledge the numerous lies. all short of collusion but, as Smith says, why lie if there's nothing at the end of the road?

Wallace had also expressed unease earlier in the segment, warning, "if you're a fair-minded citizen, you ought to be concerned about the fact that we were repeatedly misled about what this meeting concerned". It is the official safe space for White House surrogates, like Kellyanne Conway, when they want to claim that the rest of the media's "Russia obsession" is unwarranted. He went back and added 100 names and places. None of these people made it. "It wasn't even memorable, didn't write it down, didn't tell you about it, because it wasn't anything so I didn't even remember it, with a Russian interpreter in the room at Trump Tower", Smith said. If you clean, come on clean, you know?'

"The deception, Chris, is mind boggling", he said. Smith said. "The deception is mind-boggling, and there are still people out there who think we're making it up. And why are we getting told all these lies?"

Left speechless, Wallace simply responded: "I don't know what to say".

"There's been lying about who you talk to, and by lots of people and nearly inevitably and invariably", he said at the time.
