Wimbledon 2017 order of play, day 12 - women's final

Serena Williams is backing older sister Venus Williams to keep the Wimbledon title in the family for another year when the 37-year-old takes on Muguruza in the women's final.

With both players boasting similar strengths and weaknesses, the older Williams has been open about picking Serena's brains on how best to neutralise Muguruza's powerful serve and forehand, even joking this week that she wished her younger sister could play the match in her stead.

Her chances of Wimbledon glory multiplied when the only other former champion, Petra Kvitova, crashed out in the second round.

Murray's hopes of becoming the first Briton to retain a grand slam title since Fred Perry in 1936 were shredded as he hobbled helplessly to a 3-6 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-1 6-1 defeat.

With Martinez in her corner, Muguruza will play Venus Williams in Saturday's final after crushing Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova 6-1, 6-1 in the last four on Thursday. However, this time it will not be Serena but Venus and on current form, she has the artillery to become a Grand Slam champion for a second time. Too few of those on Centre Court and Henman Hill knew the British No 1 well enough to love her. "But I like to take courage in the fact that I've been playing well this tournament and this year, and all these moments have led to this", she said after winning her semi-final.

However, she has played some of her best tennis over the past year, reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals last year and the Australian Open final this year.

'I think it's very impressive, ' she said ahead of the final.

Their partnership has proved an instant hit as Martinez, who also coaches Spain's Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams, helped guide Muguruza back to the final two years after she lost to Serena Williams. She has proven that when she is on a hot streak, she can be unstoppable, as she was over her two weeks at French Open in 2016, where she even dispatched off Serena easily. In the other side of the court there will be Garbine Muguruza, who plays her seventh career-final, the third at Major level after the one lost to Serena at 2015 Wimbledon and the one won at 2016 Roland Garros.

But since May she has made the semi-finals on the Rome clay - beating Venus in the last eight in three sets - and on the Birmingham grass.

Hingis, who won five Grand Slam singles titles, is happy to concentrate now on doubles.

"I'm definitely in the position I want to be in", Venus said. "She's been really playing well on grass".

All these years later, Wimbledon still brings out the best in Venus Williams. I have one more match that I'd like to, you know, be the victor of.
