Jose Mourinho says Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City 'have something to prove'

Jose Mourinho says Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City 'have something to prove'

The Premier League and the top four at the very least has to be the number one target for Mourinho and his players, or there will be serious questions asked of the manager.

Manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he wants to add two more players this month but also admitted that it will not be easy to find two quality players on the market.

"Matic is a Chelsea player and I have to respect the player, the club and the club owner".

So far, Inter Milan have refused to budge on their €55 million valuation of Perisic, while Tottenham are in a strong position to keep hold of Dier after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50 million.

"So I don't want to say Matic or any other name because I don't think it's correct to do it".

Mourinho said: "I didn't negotiate, it was Mr Woodward who negotiated with Romelu, his agent and the Everton board, the only thing I did was to call him when the situation was nearly there just to guarantee him that he would be an important player in my team".

"We don't have our door closed".

"We need more, " said Mourinho.

Mourinho knows Matic well from their time together at Stamford Bridge, something the Portuguese coach hinted had encouraged him to chase Lukaku.

The huge amount of money United have left to spend this summer will allow Mourinho to rebuild the squad, but naturally it will also put a huge amount of pressure on the club in terms of their success next season. Negotiations with Real Madrid for the Spanish striker were stopped immediately after Ed Woodward reached an agreement with Everton for Lukaku.

Since Mourinho's arrival, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have arrived at Old Trafford for a combined £61m.

The deal came after the Belgium worldwide had seemingly been set for a return to former club Chelsea for much of the transfer window, while Mourinho's men had pursued Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata.

"It caught me by surprise, I thought they were going to go for Morata and Jose said they actually bid for Morata", Neville said to talkSPORT .

"Yes, we have had interest, that is obvious and it's public".

"What Everton have done really well - and they probably haven't had the clout in the past to do - they have got the players in so that when they have to sell a player, the fans are still happy".
