IIFA 2017: 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' film wins big in music category

Katrina Kaif caused a storm on stage with her pulsating performance and Salman Khan danced away to songs from Tubelight.

Alia's turn as a young Bihari migrant girl, won her the best actress trophy.

Udta Punjab, a gritty crime drama spotlighting the huge problem of drug abuse among young people in Punjab, scooped up the Best Actor award for Shahid Kapoor and the Best Actress prize for Alia Bhatt.

In a boomerang video shared by Shahid on the photo-blogging site Instagram, the "Shaandaar" co-stars can be seen happily playing with the award after the ceremony. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury also won the award for the Best Direction at the 2017 IIFA.

Best picture went to Neerja, a thriller based on the true story of a purser who helped save the lives of more than 350 passengers when Libyan-backed hijackers stormed Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1986.

Music director AR Rahman was given a special award for completing 25 years in the music industry.




In the Best Lyrics category, the contenders were Amitabh Bhattacharya for "Channa mereya" from "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, ' Gulzar for "Aave re Hitchki" from "Mirzya" and Tanveer Ghazi for 'Tu chal" from Pink.

Varun Dhawan's performance in Dishoom earned him the title of Best Actor in a Comic Role.

Amit Mishra bagged Best Playback Singer (Male) award for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil while Kanika Kapoor Tulsi Kumar jointly won the Best Playback Singer (Female) award for Udta Punjab and Airlift respectively.

"Raabta" actors Sushant and Kriti performed on retro tracks, while Varun paid a tribute to his father David Dhawan by grooving to his chartbusters.

Best Performance in a negative role: Jim Sarbh for Neerja.
