Soldier injured in Pakistan shelling on LoC

The Indian Army retaliated, triggering heavy exchanges.

The injured soldier belongs to 21 Sikh Regiment, said sources.

"DGMO Pakistan notified Pakistan's demarche to Indian DGMO to protest deliberate targeting of Pakistan Army's vehicle resulting into Shahadat of 4 Soldiers besides injuring one soldier and a civilian passer by", read the statement.

Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Tariq Ahmad Zargar told New Indian Express that a 9-year-old girl was also killed in Pakistani troops firing in Balakote sector.




The Pakistan Army started firing using small arms, automatics and mortars to which the Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively. Pakistan's military denied the allegations and said it had not committed ceasefire violations. HS Ghambir Brahmna, HSS Kakora, HSS Manjakote, Panchayat Ghar and other locations have been notified as camps for likely evacuation.

An Indian soldier and a young girl were killed Monday during a skirmish at the de facto border in Kashmir, officials said, just a day after four Pakistani soldiers were killed in a similar exchange. The jawan succumbed to injures while he was being rushed to the hospital.

The Indian DGMO also put across emphatically that the "trend of infiltration along the LoC continued with the active support of Pakistan forward posts".

The soldier, identified as 37-year-old Naik Muddasar Ahmed, was killed in Rajouri district's Tarkundi area. "He loved his job to the core", the Defence spokesman said. The firing in the Uri sector was still on.
