Toddler in Florida dies after being left in hot auto

Just after 3:00 p.m. Saturday, police say the one-year-old boy, who had been playing with other children on NW 5th Street was found inside a hot auto. He was declared dead in hospital a short while later.

"It's tragic", Carly told the newspaper. "He was such an active kid". Police now want to know how this could happen. "Right now Delray Beach police detectives are investigating to try to determine exactly what happened that led to this child being left in this vehicle", said Dani Moschella of the Delray Beach Police Department.

The mother says the child started crying in the auto, saying his arm hurt.

Khayden died one month shy of his second birthday, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The boy's uncle, Carly Saint Saveur, told the Sun Sentinel that the BMW belonged to the child's father, Action Saint Saveur, who left the vehicle in the driveway with a dead battery. "I'm scared for him.".

Police said one adult was home at the time Khayden is believed to have wandered outside to the driveway and opened the auto door on his own. "If they're sitting in the driveway, hide the keys", Moschella said. Temperatures in Delray Beach reached 90 degrees on Saturday.

A vehicle sitting outside in the Florida heat can cause the auto to reach 150 degrees, police explained.

At the little boy's house Saturday evening, the cars of family members and friends lined the street and several groups of people stood outside speaking in hushed tones. Neighbors said he was a happy child.

Numerous neighbors had been talking about his death, he said. And his parents treated him really well'.
