Disney's Lion King Remake Shows Off Amazing First Footage at D23

Disney's Lion King Remake Shows Off Amazing First Footage at D23

Jeff Nathanson wrote the script for the live-action adaptation, which is being produced by Favreau and Jeffrey Silver.

Just as this rumored casting began gaining steam, sources were quick to shut it down. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why Disney didn't announce Jackman officially and why his own representatives are denying it.

Jackman has completed his tenure as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, so there's every possibility that he may be seeking a new franchise to hang his hat on. He made a decision to bring some of the footage with him and debuted it to the crowd at D23.

The clip featured African landscapes, wild animals and ended with the iconic "Circle of Life" moment where Rafiki introduces baby Simba on Pride Rock. This looks like another Disney blockbuster after huge successes of Jungle Book and The Beauty and the Beast. However, that is highly unlikely. James Earl Jones will also return to voice Mufasa. He replaces original voice Jeremy Irons. Alas with what Jackman's representatives have said, it seems there's zero room for Jackman being involved.

The Lion King is due out some time next year. If Jackman and Beyonce both end up in the film, it would be one of the best ensemble casts Disney has ever compiled.

Now the rest of us just need to wait and see if Disney will drop the footage online. any day now. Mulan is scheduled, as is Aladdin, which is being directed by Guy Ritchie for some reason, and starring Power Rangers highlight Naomi Scott. The film will be directed by Guy Ritchie and now has no release date.

It's not likely the public will see the footage anytime soon: The Lion King is due in theaters July 19, 2019.
