Amazon recalling some solar eclipse glasses week before event

Amazon has not received confirmation from the supplier of your order that they sourced the item from a recommended manufacturer.

As August 21 nears, scammers are flooding the market with fake solar eclipse glasses.

Also, do not look at the un-eclipsed or partially eclipsed sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or other optical device - even using your eclipse glasses or viewer.

Many viewers told KOIN 6 News Saturday they had received this email, forcing them to purchase new ones. With the date quickly approaching, and many stores selling out, people are wondering where to buy eclipse safety glasses.

If customers choose the Amazon route, it is important make sure the glasses will ship in time.

Another Portland resident, Will Clark, bought eclipse glasses billed as "CE and ISO tested, safe solar viewing".

An Amazon spokesperson said Amazon is responding "out of an abundance of caution".

Amazon also said in the email they were refunding buyers in full.

Anyone who is concerned about their eclipse glasses but did not receive an email about the recall can reach out to Amazon customer service for a refund.

The public is encouraged to come and learn about the Solar Eclipse that will take place on August 21, and how to view the eclipse safely.
