Chelsea to make an improved £25m bid

Chelsea to make an improved £25m bid

Chelsea have so far refused to follow up a £15million bid for Danny Drinkwater that was rejected by Leicester City earlier in the summer, according to reports.

However, it looks like Chelsea may need to dig a little deeper if they want to strike a deal as the Telegraph claim Leicester are demanding closer to £40m for the 27-year-old's signature.

Speaking about Chelsea's desperate search for new signings this week, Conte said: "I think I am the coach of this team, my aim is to improve the players".

It is understood that Drinkwater is interested in a move to Chelsea, even though he may find himself behind N'Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas in Conte's pecking order.

It's somewhat surprising Drinkwater would want to go from an established starter with the Foxes to perhaps spending most of his time on the bench at Chelsea.

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare is confident of retaining all the players he wants to keep in his squad but is wary of approaches from rivals as the transfer window enters its final weeks.

The Telegraph's exclusive report also suggests that the East Midlands side will consider Danny Drinkwater's sale, shall the Premier League Champions increase their offer to £40 million. His passing range-specifically his ability to spring breaks with long balls over the top-maximised Leicester's pace.

The Telegraph say Chelsea tabled an initial offer of £15m for the England worldwide some weeks ago but have not followed up with an improved bid.
