Kicks off the 26th season of the English Premier League

Guardiola's old rival Jose Mourinho hasn't been shy about raiding the United coffers, with the Lukaku swoop headlining a £140 million spree that also brought Benfica defender Victor Lindelof and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford.

Having led United to League Cup and Europa League glory last season, Mourinho's challenge for the new campaign is to turn them into title contenders.

"Of course he missed a chance with an open goal, but he scored his goal".

The Belgium global had earlier missed from just a few yards out with the goal gaping, but Mourinho was pleased with the way his £75m summer signing responded. "If that is going to mean better results and the title, I don't know". So I don't think he'll be a huge loss to them. I'm sure Chris will know the key for any newly-promoted team is how you do at home.

Referring to his former clubs contributing goals from all areas, Mourinho said he hopes the team can ease the burden on the Reds' strikeforce in the season ahead to find other ways to win games.

Despite finishing sixth in the league, Mourinho completed his first season at United with two trophies.

The 20-year-old striker attracted attention in scoring the winning goal for England against Venezuela in the final of the under-20 World Cup in June, and is set for more games at Everton this season now Romelu Lukaku has joined Manchester United.

"There are a lot of variables that aren't easy but from the outside, it does seem unusual to let that player go to a direct rival - and he will improve them".

"Lukaku has done a great job with the clubs that he has been at", said United right-back Antonio Valencia.

"We can but we can also play with four in the back", he said.

One reason as to why the Premier League is so watchable and so popular is that there is so much competition, especially at the top of the table.

The three sides that came up from the Championship are amongst them, obviously, though with Rafa Benitez at the helm, Newcastle should have a much more comfortable time of it than the other two, so long as the Spaniard doesn't fall out with Mike Ashley.

"When this season I got a call that Matic wants to play for me, he wants to come to Manchester United and he can make it happen, I thought he was the flawless player for me". We sat and endured the signings coming to the club, in time for our debut season at the London Stadium.
