Patient with swine flu symptoms reported

The health secretary informed the media that eight persons had lost their lives due to swine flu, while two dengue deaths have also been reported in the state so far.

"The situation is completely under control and there is no need to panic".

CUTTACK:A lady resident doctor of Transfusion Medicine Department in SCB Medical College and Hospital has tested positive for swine flu even as 13 new cases were reported on Thursday. "Most of the swine flu cases reported in Odisha are migration cases", said Meherda.

He said vaccinations are now being given only to doctors and other para medical staff engaged in the handling of swine flu patients.

The number is far less than past year when eight people had died of dengue while almost 4,000 positive cases were reported, he added. According to Health department sources, the number of dengue cases has touched 370 in the state with close to 60 positive cases being reported from Bhadrak district alone. Many patients are from outside as per the district health authorities.

The health secretary had earlier inspected the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack and Capital Hospital at Bhubaneswar to see the arrangements made for patients.

He said the hospital since March this year has tested blood samples of at least 2,754 patients, out of which 242 cases were found to be dengue-positive so far.
