Not really rested: Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja set for county cricket debuts

Ashwin is now part of the Indian team in action in Sri Lanka and in the last Test in Colombo picked up six wickets. Ashwin in all likelihood could be available for Worcestershire's match against Gloucestershire on August 28.

Ashwin's spin partner Ravindra Jadeja has also been rested from the five-one day worldwide, one-T20 series against Sri Lanka beginning in Dambulla on Sunday.

While Worcestershire was keen to rope in the services of Ravindra Jadeja, who has also been reste for the ODI series in Sri Lanka, there hasn't been any confirmation on which county the left-arm spinner will play for this season.

The move to "rest" Ashwin comes after he played every game of India's marathon 13-Test home season, in which he sent down 4430 balls to break spin predecessor Anil Kumble's record (3,673 balls in the 2004-05) for the most deliveries in a single season in Test history. After playing the first half of the season, he was called up for national duty for the just-concluded Test series against Sri Lanka.

With Worcestershire trying to push their chances for a promotion to the first division, the county would like to have the services of Ashwin till the end of the season. "Ashwin is part of other formats too, so it is a blessing in disguise for both of them because we will have a full-fledged tour of five Tests in England next year", Prasad said. "Pujara and Ashwin will be playing county cricket".

"It is always good to play and get that first hand feel of the conditions".

Worcestershire are now placed second in division two of the County Championship.

Ashwin, in all likelihood, will play against hist Indian team-mate, Pujara, when the Midlands side take on Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on September 5.

Ashwin will be the first Indian player to play for Worcestershire since Zaheer Khan resurrected his global career after a superb season at New Road in 2006.
