Alabama No. 1 in preseason AP poll, Auburn ranked 12th

The end of summer brings about the release of the annual Associated Press college football Top 25.

With the 2017 season just around the corner, and the Crimson Tide once again a favorite to take home college football's ultimate prize, you'd forgive Saban if he had more important things on his mind than today's total solar eclipse, an event that has captivated the entire world.

I look at it this way.

"Nobody called and asked us", second-year coach Kirby Smart said when he was asked about Georgia's ranking in the coaches' poll in early August. It is by no means permanent and there will always be those who disagree with the local weatherman no matter what the forecast is.

No need to overthink it: Alabama is No. 1 in the AP preseason Top 25.

Penn State checks in at No. 6 in the preseason rankings. Ohio State was No. 2, edging No. 3 Florida State and preventing the first 1 vs. 2 opening game since the preseason poll began in 1950.

K-State returns 44 letterwinners - including 18 starters - from last year's squad that earned a 9-4 record and capped its season with a 33-28 victory over Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl.

The Seminoles will face the top-ranked Crimson Tide to open the season on September 2 in Atlanta.

Other SEC teams ranked: No. 12 Auburn, No. 13 LSU and No. 25 Tennessee. Scattered singles and SRO tickets for the Central Arkansas game can be purchased through the K-State Athletics Ticket office online at www.k-statesports.com/tickets, by phone at 1-800-221-CATS or at the main ticket office inside Bramlage Coliseum.
