Referee appointed for Manchester City vs. Crystal Palace

77 days on from taking the job at Selhurst Park, the Dutchman was out of a job, having overseen four straight Premier League defeats for the London club.

Palace have already replaced De Boer with former England manager Roy Hodgson, and he also suffered a defeat on Saturday, losing 1-0 at home to Southampton, meaning the Eagles have lost all five of their Premier League games this term without even scoring a goal.

Palace chairman Steve Parish this week acknowledged his club were short of competition for striker Christian Benteke, but Hodgson experimented with Sako and Lee Chung-yong up front in his favoured 4-4-2 formation.

Jackie De Boer is, according to his latest post, set to study English for six months at Cambridge.

Roy Hodgson was pleased with the efforts of his Crystal Palace side after they recorded a first win under his management.

'But Frank was here from July 1 and in the end, I didn't think it was going to work. I can't let that make the decision. "I regret the fact that it didn't work for Frank as much as it didn't work for the club and I felt we had to make a change".

But Parish said: 'Actually, it was the one we had the most time for and possibly nearly agonised over it too much and it kind of became nearly muddled thinking.

"It was a squad of players we had to assess, organise, work out which ones going forward would be the ones that could help us out".

'And maybe there was a bit of a disconnect about what could be achieved in the time possible.

"If you look at the second half against Ipswich we went to 4-3-3 and then at Burnley we went to 4-3-3, clearly with the people we had that seemed to be the best way we can play and Frank was perfectly capable of coaching a team to play that way".
