Emmy audience adores Parton, Fonda and Tomlin Emmy reunion

The TV-centric show also managed to find the time to celebrate a classic film by reuniting 9 to 5 stars Dolly Parton, Lilly Tomlin, and Jane Fonda.

Jane Fonda, 79, wore bangs and a ponytail, and was choked around her neck by diamonds and emeralds which she chose to wear backwards at Sunday's Emmy Awards, InStyle magazine revealed.

Things got political real quick when Fonda pulled the punches on President Donald Trump.

Dolly, 71, Lily, 78, and Jane, 79, appeared to still be incredibly close as they stood side-by-side at the star-studded Los Angeles ceremony, with all three of them looking years younger than their age.

"Back in 1980, in that movie", said Fonda, "we refused to be controlled by a 'sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot, '" quoting from her character in the film. Parton, in the middle of the trio, was silent during that exchange, but raised her eyebrows.

Donald Glover won the gong for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in his show Atlanta and also took a swipe at Trump.

Lead Actress in a Comedy Series victor, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, revealed that a storyline about a fictional president's dismissal had to be removed from her show, Veep.

Mr Trump's fired press secretary Sean Spicer came on stage to joke "this will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys - period", in a reference to the debacle over numbers attending the president's inauguration speech.
