Iran Says Ready to Supply Pakistan's Energy Needs

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who is in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly session, said his country doesn't have a complaint if India assists Afghanistan economically, but will never accept any political or military role for India in Afghanistan. Both the parties discussed issues relating to bilateral relationships as well as the peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The statement further added "Prime Minister shared Pakistan's concerns and views with regard to the United States strategy for South Asia".

Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua told journalists after the meeting in NY, that the interaction was an "ice-breaker".

Speaking to Geo News, Abbasi said: "Pakistan has made clear its national policy to America".

Responding to questions after talk at the Council for Foreign Relations, Prime Minister said Pakistan has a fully secure, reliable and robust nuclear command and control system under a full civilian oversight.

According to the statement, the Vice President reiterated President Trump's belief that "Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort" in the region. The Vice President highlighted ways that Pakistan could work with the United States and others to bolster stability and prosperity for all in South Asia.




The Prime Minister said while pursuing a policy of peaceful neighbourhood, Pakistan was committed to strengthen relations with Iran which were rooted in common history, culture and people to people ties.

He said periodic meetings are held and a regular review is undertaken to ensure the safety and security of the country's nuclear assets.

Pakistan's UN Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi said that the premier would outline Pakistan's position on key global political, social and development issues of vital concern to the country. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session here. He mentioned the large-scale military operation launched by the Pakistan army against the terrorists and said over 200,000 of its troops have been on the hunt for any miscreants.

Abbasi was speaking at an event in NY, where he also said that Pakistan will act "when it's required" against Hafiz Saeed, the co-founder of militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba and one of the kep people behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. "I don't think there is a need for bases anymore on our territory", he said. We expect that during upcoming parleys, both Islamabad and Washington will not only openly discuss the issues but also find practical solutions to address them in an environment of mutual respect.

Responding to a question, PM said that There is no Haqqani Network in the country.
