Sushma Swaraj exchanges greetings with Chinese counterpart at UN

Swaraj, who is here for the 72nd annual session of the UN General Assembly, said India stands with Mexico in this hour of grief.

The Indian Foreign Minister arrived in NY on Sunday for seven days during which she is holding of back-to-back engagements, centering around the U.N. General Assembly.

At a ministerial-level meeting of BRICS here, she said without naming any country: "Terror groups draw sustenance from support systems in South Asia".

In another apparent remark against Pakistan, the EAM, in her speech said those states which support extremism in the name of religion should be identified and isolated. She also said India, as a member of SCO, will cooperate extensively to further consolidate the SCO as an effective regional platform.

"The External Affairs Minister called on the Prime Minister of Mauritius and she had meetings with the Foreign Minister of Mexico, Norway and Belgium".

She also touched on climate change and referred to Indian Prime Minister Narendra's Modi's suggestion of an alliance between the India-initiated International Solar Alliance and the New Development Bank, a multilateral development bank established by the BRICS nations. Earlier in the day, Sushma told her counterparts from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) that there can be no justification for any acts of terrorism.

"India strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. There can be no justification for any acts of terrorism", Sushma had said while addressing a meeting of foreign ministers of the grouping on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in NY.

The SCO countries include China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan as its founding members.

Representatives from India and Pakistan took part in the extraordinary session of the SCO foreign ministers as full-fledged members for the first time.
