European Central Bank suspends Stokes, Hales from global duty

Opening batsman Alex Hales, who was with 26-year-old Stokes on Sunday after playing alongside him during a win over West Indies in the third one-day global in Bristol, has also been suspended from England duty.

He was released without charge later that day but has remained under investigation by Avon & Somerset Police ever since, with team-mate Alex Hales returning voluntarily to Bristol to provide evidence.

"I'm hearing that Ben Stokes intervened to help two gay guys who were being abused by yobs [youths], one of whom was armed with a bottle".

Stokes, who was held overnight and released under investigation late on Monday, and Hales were also dropped from the fourth ODI of the ongoing four-match series against West Indies.

"We believe there are two specific witnesses, both men, with information about what happened in the moments prior to the disorder who are yet to come forward and we'd appeal for them to do so as soon as possible".

Harvey, who suffers from Prader-Willi syndrome and behavioural problems, on the show had revealed how he responds to online abuse from trolls.

Although some figures in the European Central Bank are understood to have some sympathy for Stokes' actions, if the circumstances he has described are accurate, the fact that the two men have yet to come forward despite blanket media coverage of the incident will be a major concern to the player. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated Stokes will not be considered for selection until the conclusion of that investigation. In the video, men can be heard shouting: "Enough, Stokes".

The footage of the alleged brawl involving Stokes also appears to show Hales stamping and kicking at an individual. Hales was not named in the Ashes squad.

On Wednesday, Trevor Bayliss, England's head coach, expressed his displeasure at the players going out late at night while midway through an worldwide series, even though there is now no curfew in place for the England squad. Meanwhile England coach Trevor Bayliss said Thursday that events of the past few days had been one of the toughest challenges of a career that saw the 54-year-old Australian caught up in a deadly 2009 terror attack on a team bus in Lahore while coaching Sri Lanka. They are adults and they have to take responsibility.

This morning video emerged of Stokes - the 26-year-old vice-captain of the British cricket team - mocking the interview. Ashes-holders England's next worldwide fixture will be the first Test against Australia in Brisbane commencing on November 23.

Opening batsman Alex Hales, who was with Stokes on Sunday after playing alongside him during a win over West Indies in the third one-day worldwide in Bristol, has also been suspended from England global selection.
