Amazon's waterproof 'Kindle Oasis' e-reader launched in India at Rs. 21999

Amazon's waterproof 'Kindle Oasis' e-reader launched in India at Rs. 21999

The Kindle Oasis will cost you $249.99 for 8 GB of storage and a 7-inch screen, making it three times more expensive than the $79.99 base-model Kindle.

What is more interesting is the fact that this is the first Kindle Oasis device which is waterproof.

Amazon has four Kindle devices in their e-book lineup: the original Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Voyage and the Oasis. The new Kindle Oasis is priced at Rs. 21,999 for the Wifi-only 8GB model and Rs. 28,999 for the 32GB model that comes with WiFi + free 3G. Today, the company has launched the new variant of the Kindle Oasis.

The device is IPX8 waterproof certified which means it can be submerged in water up to 2m for up to 60 minutes. The IPX8 rating indicates that the device is waterproof.

Apart from being the company's first waterproof Kindle e-reader, the Kindle Oasis is also Amazon's thinnest and lightest Kindle e-reader ever.

"Kindle Oasis" has a battery life measured in weeks and has fast-charging capability that allows it to go from zero to fully-charged in less than two hours.

This latest Amazon eReader has Wi-Fi support and a 3G model. You should be warned, however, that the Kindle does not have speakers, yet it does have Bluetooth connection enabling you to connect to another device. The service has 250,000 audiobooks available for download on an ad-hoc or subscription basis, but one proviso of the integration is that customers buy both the ebook and the audiobook of the same book. The device will start shipping from November 13. The regular model is Wi-Fi only and packs 8GB storage, whereas the mid-tier version has 32GB internal memory and costs $280. The more premium leather covers in Merlot and Black options come for Rs. 3,999. You can also purchase water-safe fabric covers for your new Amazon Kindle Oasis in shades of Sandstone, Charcoal, and Indigo, all at Rs. 2,999. Moreover, with Kindle Unlimited offer Amazon claims to have over 1 million eBooks available at starting price of Rs 149 per month.
