ATP Shanghai: Del Potro tops Zverev. Dimitrov beats Querrey to reach QF

Juan Martín del Potro is making a late run to qualify as one of the chosen eight for next month's ATP Tour Finals in London after his determined fight-back to beat Alexander Zverev at the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

The German prodigy and the 29-year-old, whose career has been beset by injury, went toe to toe in the second set and the tie break was just as tight until Del Potro grabbed the crucial mini-break.

Federer, the Swiss world number two, plays Richard Gasquet in the last 8 on Friday after Gasquet outlasted fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon in a marathon three-setter.

The victor of that match may well meet Roger Federer in the semi-finals - a man whom Del Potro downed at the US Open.

6-4 in one hour and 55 minutes to set up a quarter-final meeting with John Isner or Viktor Troicki.

The 46th-ranked Harrison led 4-2 in the third set and then 6-3 in the tiebreaker.

A fan at least came away with a demolished racquet after Zverev handed it to a spectator.

The 20-year-old Zverev, who has collected 5 ATP World Tour titles this season, lost his temper when broken by the Argentine at 2-2 in the decider and flung his racquet down to the ground, reports Xinhua news agency.

"I just had to be there (on those match points)", Dimitrov said. "I was feeling good the whole match, even coming out of the first set, which he was playing well". "I think we both played pretty well from the baseline".
