It's official Ashish Nehra to retire on 1st November

Veteran Indian pacer Ashish Nehra on Thursday announced that he will retire from worldwide cricket after the opening T20 against New Zealand at his home ground of Delhi on November 1, ending a prolific but injury- plagued career.

India fast bowler Ashish Nehra has made a decision to call time on his worldwide career after the T20I match against New Zealand in Delhi. I can play for another couple of years but it isn't easy for a fast bowler at 38-39, especially considering the state of my body.

"Obviously, there is some element of surprise".

Nehra will make his final bow on his home ground at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi.

The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have said they owe a lot of their skills to Nehra's advice and he is well respected in the dressing-room.

The lanky pacer had been named in India's squad for the three match T20I series against Australia but so far has not featured in the first two games. "Nehra has requested for one last match at his home ground and wants to go out on a high", stated a BCCI official.

If the reports are to be believed, Nehra had chose to exclude himself from the playing eleven in the opening match of ongoing three-match T20 worldwide series. "But he feels, it's the right time to move on". He missed a part of the 2017 IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, owing to a hamstring injury.

Nehra made his worldwide debut way back in 1999, in a Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

He formed a potent new-ball bowling partnership with fellow left-armer Zaheer Khan at the turn of the century, but persistent injuries - which resulted in surgeries on his ankle and knee - hampered a stop-start career.

Overall, Nehra has 44 Test wickets, 157 ODI wickets and 34 scalps in T20Is.

Part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad, Nehra injured himself in the semi-finals of the tournament against Pakistan, and was not part of the playing XI in the finals.
