Jose Mourinho reacts to Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini injury concerns

Victory against Liverpool, who are without Sadio Mane after the forward was injured playing for Senegal, would mean United's best ever start to a Premier League season.

"I like to play against the best teams, I like to play against the best clubs and I like to play at the best stadiums - the stadiums with more history", Mourinho told Sky Sports. "We have our objectives for the season, we know where we want to go and how we have to go".

De Bruyne registered 18 assists in the 2016-17 campaign for Pep Guardiola's side, more than any other player in the top flight, and he has started the new campaign in similar style.

Fellaini had been in fine form heading in to the worldwide break and scored twice during the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace last time out so many thought the news would come a disappointment to Mourinho.

Chelsea's two-time Player of the Year, Mata, was soon usurped by Oscar after Mourinho's return to the club at the end of the season.

He's become an important part of Mourinho's plans, but the Portuguese isn't anxious about players missing through injury.

"He's given them that little bit of extra pace in behind, proven goalscorer in the Premier League". Fellaini has appeared in seven games for United and has netted four goals.

The Egyptian winger has excelled since moving to Anfield, scoring six goals in eleven appearances having joined from Roma in the summer.

'If he [Lukaku] plays tonight it is because he has recovered.'
"It would be unfair to say Lukaku and Matic didn't have an impact in the improvement of the team - of course they did".

'If he doesn't play, I will play another one'.

But Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen believes the worldwide break has done Lukaku good - and the way he left battered defenders trailing in his wake before firing home against the Cypriots should be a cause for alarm for Liverpool's suspect back line.
