Petrol bunks strike from October 12 midnight

Petrol bunks strike from October 12 midnight

State petrol pump dealers on Wednesday called-off their 24-hour nationwide strike on October 13 after state oil companies rejected their demands and warned them against closure. Besides, there are demands too for which the dealers are raising voice. Oil companies never criticised the dealers or the union openly but with changing time this had to be done, he added.

UPF represents over 54,000 dealers from the Federation of All-India Petroleum Traders, the All-India Petroleum Dealers Association and the Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers. All their demands have already been considered and addressed.

UPF, the umbrella organisation of all three nationwide organisations of all petrol dealers - Federation of All India Petroleum Traders, All India Petroleum Dealers Association and Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers in a meeting chose to abort services at petrol pumps throughout the nation if their demands are not met.

"OMCs have zero tolerance policy towards customer cheating and it will impact only those dealers who indulge in such malpractices", Balwinder Singh Canth, director (marketing), Indian Oil, said during a media interaction with his counterparts from the other two OMCs. The state can interfere in this matter as oil is an essential commodity.

"Our guidelines are in the interest of the consumer and we will not put public into inconvenience during this festive season", he said. The dealers are also demanding for resolution of manpower issues, a new study of handling losses, and resolution of issues related to transportation and ethanol blending.

According to OMCs, the main grudge of fuel retailers is a recent amendment made in the Marketing Discipline Guidelines (MDG), which gives the companies powers to impose a penalty of up to Rs2 lakh and suspension of dealership in cases where dealers are found to have deliberately tampered with the machinery to cheat consumers.

Opposition Congress also supported their demand to bring petroleum products under the GST. But the OMCs countered it by saying it is a more efficient system.
