Wins and Losses for Outgoing Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Voting is wrapping up in Liberia, where a runoff election already is expected because of the high number of presidential candidates. The victory is believed to have boosted his political image across the West African country ahead of the 2017 presidential poll which held on Tuesday, October 10.

At the end of Liberian civil war, Weah announced his intention to run for president in the 2005 elections, forming the Congress for Democratic Change to back his candidacy.

However Liberia's Observer newspaper reports that "the possibility of a run-off between presidential hopefuls George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and Joseph Boakai of the ruling Unity Party (UP), is becoming increasingly likely".

Weah who was a former Chelsea and Manchester City player, was also a three-time victor of the African Footballer of the Year prize.

Vote-counting continued across Liberia yesterday following presidential elections that are likely to go to a run-off, with 20 candidates contesting, local media and observers say.

The party's national chairman, Benjamin Sanvee in a statement, "The Liberty Party is deeply troubled by the discovery of numerous incidents of irregularities and fraud that occurred during the elections". "If NEC does not cooperate with our request, we will take the appropriate legal action".
