MI mom jailed for not vaccinating son loses primary custody

Rebecca Bredow, 40, lost primary custody of her son after she was jailed for refusing to vaccinate him.

A MI mother who was jailed after refusing to vaccinate her 9-year-old son said she would "do it all over again", even though it led to her spending five days behind bars and losing primary custody of her child. After she defied the judge's order, she served a five-day jail term, according to U.S.A. Today.

Bredow is in the middle of a custody battle over her son with James Horne, the boy's father. Horne was given temporary custody of the boy with an order for him to be vaccinated. A small group of supporters gathered outside the courthouse, waving signs reading "freedom is not force" and comparing the fight against vaccines to the pro-choice movement.

Bredow's attorney said she was "devastated" when she found out her son was vaccinated. "It's been a rough few days to say the least". He received four immunizations on Monday.

"I absolutely stand by my choices because I stand up for what I believe in", she told reporters, before being cut off by a man who appeared to be her lawyer. Her attorney plans to appeal.

A United States mother has been left devastated to learn that her son has been vaccinated during her prison stint for refusing to inoculate her nine-year-old son.

"Never in a million years did I ever think that I would end up in jail standing up to try to protect my kids, and standing up for my beliefs", Bredow told ABC.

Judge Karen McDonald said the boy had two parents and "dad gets a say".

After Bredow said that she and her ex-husband agreed until recently on not vaccinating their child, the judge said that Bredow acknowledged in her own pleadings that he was up-to-date on his vaccinations when he was a year old. "Even if you agree to them, which you did".
