Samsung confirms development of Bixby 2.0, will be unveiled on 18 October

We can expect the virtual assistant to receive some major upgrades that will make it compete with others including Google's Assistant, Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, and Amazon's Alexa, which are already available in wide range of countries. He will be now responsible for the development of Bixby and other artificial intelligence services replacing Rhee In-jong. The company has nabbed expert Eui-suk Chung from Silicon Valley and will have him working on Bixby alongside Rhee, as mentioned above. He had previously worked for Ericsson and Samsung's smartphone research center.

According to reports, the South Korean smartphone and electronics products manufacturer will unveil the new version of the Bixby digital assistant during the company's developer conference that will be held in San Francisco on October 18.

Samsung says this isn't the case, "Chung's move can not be seen as Rhee's replacement as Rhee will continue to remain as the head of development 1 division that oversees the intelligence group".

Bixby, which was unveiled four months ago, has received an unenthusiastic response from users, with critics calling it a beta product rather than a polished release, with the system often misunderstanding commands.

"Outside developers will participate in the development of Bixby 2.0 although they could not for Bixby 1.0 due to time shortage", he added. The company is however looking to change things with version 2.0 of Bixby that is now said to be announced on October 8 at Samsung's developer conference in San Francisco.

Korea Herald reportedly reported that the improved version of Bixby will finally have a third party support so it can be used by products other than the tech firm's flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus.
