Trump Offered Fallen Soldier's Father $25000 but Never Sent It

The White House on Wednesday said President Trump has sent a $25,000 check to the father of a slain Army soldier - almost four months after having made the offer and on the same day it was reported by the Washington Post.

On June 10, 22-year-old Army Cpl. "But I was like, 'Damn, no check.' Just a letter saying, 'I'm sorry'". "He said, 'No other president has ever done something like this, ' but he said, 'I'm going to do it'".

But then, Baldridge told the Post, the only thing he subsequently received from the White House was a letter of condolence; no check.

"The check has been sent".

"It's disgusting that the media is taking something that should be recognized as a generous and honest gesture, made privately by the President, and using it to advance the media's biased agenda", the statement said.

"I didn't say what that congresswoman said".

The story recalled a previous scandal over Trump's charitable giving to veterans: A full four months passed before Trump donated a promised $1 million to veterans' causes, during which time his campaign lied about Trump having already donated the money.

Knowledge of Trump's pledge to Baldridge comes amid the ongoing flap about how presidents handle condolence calls to families of those killed in action and Trump's feud with a Democratic congresswoman over his call with the widow of Sgt.

During a call with the president, The Post reports, Trump offered to write Baldridge a personal check of $25,000 and said he would work to establish an online fundraiser for the family.

"I think that Gen. Kelly is disgusted by the way that this has been politicized and that the focus has become on the process and not the fact that American lives were lost".

Johnson's mother also called the president's comments disrespectful.

Have you no sense of decency, sir?

Trump previously came under criticism after he claimed that former President Barack Obama didn't call the families of fallen soldiers - which is not true.

President Trump is under fire for disrespecting military families and making false claims about contacting Gold Star families.

. The White House has said there is no recording of the call, but that people were in the room with Trump when it happened.

The timing of Trump's donation raised questions because the Post reported Wednesday that White House official initially declined to discuss the events in detail but later told them the check had been sent.

He's determined to hold the President accountable for his statement, and is trying to get his attention on Twitter.
