Post Mersal controversy, taxmen raid Tamil actor Vishal's production house

But what is this controversy surrounding Mersal and the Tamil actor Vijay.

Reports said four income tax department officials visited the Vishal Film Factory's office to probe charges that the production house deducted tax at source of payment worth Rs 51 lakh made to various clients but allegedly failed to deposit the amount with the government. "Dear Mr HRaja, as a leader and prominent personality, you are advocating piracy and blatantly agreeing to it", Vishal said in a statement.

The raid at Vishal's office took a curious turn after the Directorate General of Goods and Service Tax Intelligence, Chennai Zonal unit denied initial media reports of its official conducting the raid. "The issue needs to be sorted officially and I will do so", Vishal told ANI, after a raid was conducted at his office in Chennai yesterday. "Everyone knows very well that watching a movie online is wrong". This happed just after Actor Vishal lashed out at politician H.Raja for watching a pirated version of "Mersal' and commenting on the scenes in the film". Raja sir himself said in an interview that he watched the movie online.

"My staff told me IT officials were on an inspection over the TDS issue". However, Raja had clarified that he had only watched clips of the movie on his mobile phone.

A lawyer filed a police complaint in E3 police station in Annanagar in Madurai against actor Vijay over dialogues in Mersal, a police official disclosed, adding that no FIR has been lodged. In the gesture of support, he said, "Joseph is a nice name for Vijay".

The BJP leaders are demanding for the removal of dialogues that mock new national tax GST in Mersal.

Mersal starring Vijay, Samantha Akkineni, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen, directed by Atlee, which was released on the occasion of Diwali, opened to fantastic response from the audience.
