Devonta Freeman likely out for Week 11 showdown with Seahawks

It would not be a surprise if Freeman's absence extended beyond this week and into multiple games, considering his history, according to sources.

Freeman took a helmet-to-helmet hit in the first quarter of the Falcons' 27-7 win against the Dallas Cowboys. He has played in all nine games this season, but shoulder and knee issues have limited his practice participation and he has topped 75 rushing yards just twice all season. He suggested that much in a Twitter post on Sunday, saying he could tell Freeman was playing with a concussion during their week 9 matchup. Considering the opponent, maybe that's a good thing for Freeman. Tevin Coleman is a good running back, but there's a reason Freeman became the highest-paid running back in the National Football League during the offseason.

Being declared out so early in the week is a red flag for Freeman's status beyond Week 11. Were Freeman to miss any time Tevin Coleman would be the main beneficiary, with Terron Ward also seeing a significant boost.

Unfortunately, Freeman is all too familiar with concussion protocol. With how banged up he has been, he probably needs a break anyway.
