Lebanon marathon runners race in solidarity for Hariri

Hariri's resignation, announced from Riyadh, and its aftermath have put Lebanon at the forefront of regional rivalry between Shi'ite-led Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia Riyadh in recent days.

Hariri announced his resignation in a televised statement last Saturday, citing many reasons, including the security situation in Lebanon, for his sudden decision.

He indicated the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Lebanese in the Gulf could be at risk, as well as trade, vital to the stability of the Lebanese economy.

"Yes, it would have been better that I come to Lebanon (to resign) but there was danger", he said, referring to an alleged assassination plot against him.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has yet to formally accept Hariri's resignation and has criticized the circumstances surrounding it as "unacceptable".

Saudi Arabia announced it shut down all ports after a November 4 ballistic missile attack on Riyadh near its global airport by the Houthis.

"To reach a political solution in Lebanon, all political figures must have complete freedom of movement", he told reporters when asked about Hariri.

Hariri, who has not returned to Lebanon since he declared his shock resignation, said he stepped down for the sake of the Lebanese national interest, repeatedly saying the country must stick by a policy of "disassociation" from regional conflict.

The Lebanon president sought to smooth his inquiries with soft language, including reminding Riyadh of a "deep brotherly and friendly relations" between the two countries.

A picture of Lebanon's prime minister appeared this week on the front of a popular daily newspaper below the headline "The Hostage". We want him to first come to Lebanon.

Hariri's interview on Sunday night, carried by Future TV, a channel associated with his political party, raised some new questions. Then, when an quake was reported in Iraq and Iran, she referenced it, telling Hariri it was to make sure people believed the interview was live.

The announcement comes after Yemeni transport minister Murad Al Halimi said on Friday that airports in the government-held cities of Aden and Seiyun, in Hadramawt province, would be reopening.

"I am freely in the Kingdom, and if I want to travel tomorrow, I will travel". Saudi Arabia's powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman later accused Iran of "direct military aggression" against the kingdom by supplying the rebels with ballistic missiles.

Joanne Hamza, a physical education teacher who wore a cap with a picture of Hariri on it, said he was missed at the race.
