PM Modi, Australia PM Turnbull hold bilateral meeting — ASEAN Summit

American President Donald Trump could not help praise the spectacle at the gala celebration hosted by his counterpart, Rodrigo Duterte, on Sunday night.

Ms Ardern will meet Rodrigo Duterte later this evening after the East Asia Summit finishes in Manila. Trump is on a five-country trip through Asia traveling to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines.

"It is the first prime ministerial visit in thirty-six years from India to Philippines".

The relationship between India and the United States goes beyond mutual interest and can be beneficial for Asia and humanity at large, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday to US President Donald Trump, who described him as a "friend" who is "doing a great job".

The two countries also vowed to increase cooperation on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and will conduct additional exercises.

President Donald Trump had a little trouble figuring out an awkward group handshake with world leaders at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit on Monday - and people on Twitter noticed. His government says the police act in self-defense, but critics say executions are taking place with no accountability.

Speaking to the media, the Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Preeti Saran, said the invitation to Mr. Duterte was extended by Mr. Modi during the bilateral discussions.

Trudeau said he also met Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and raised the plight of Rohingya refugees, although he did not mention the Muslim minority by name.

Over 600,000 Rohingya have fled to refugee camps in Bangladesh since military clearance operations were launched in response to attacks by Rohingya militants on August 25.
