Does Ben Affleck Want to Quit Playing Batman?

Does Ben Affleck Want to Quit Playing Batman?

It seems the Amazons are wearing some skimpier costumes for Justice League, and some don't' see that as a bad thing. The reason is as simple as it's heartwarming; it's all for his son.

Though Affleck might be continually flip flopping on his decision to stay in Warner Bros. burgeoning superhero franchise given his current age, the DCEU star seems to be enjoying his time doing the promotional rounds for Justice League and now that the film releases on Friday, the actor's chose to let out the real reason why he chose to become the franchise's Batman.

While giving an interview to a leading US publication, Affleck noted, "The new Batman movie being developed by Matt Reeves ['War for the Planet of the Apes'] is something I'm contemplating". Like all parents, Affleck wanted his child to see him as a superhero.

When asked if he will continue to play Batman in two more movies after Justice League, Affleck commented, "I don't know about that. The genre movie, the spectacle, you see it on the big screen because a lot of work went into making it seem big, you know?" Despite never being aired in the United States, it isn't difficult to find a copy of Justice League if you try hard enough; a recent piece by IGN notes that bootlegs of the show are "a common sight on the convention scenes" and points to the show's global distribution in countries like Mexico and Puerto Rico as signs of its weak popularity. "That's why I quit drinking - because I don't want to be dancing like that anymore".

Affleck also reveals to Jimmy Kimmel that he and best friend Matt Damon actually read for the part of Robin years ago!

It's a very cute story, which is the point. Even if the rumors that Affleck's time in the cape and cowl is coming a close sooner rather than later turn out to be false, it's been rare to see Affleck talk positively (or have fun at all) about being Batman.

Of course, Affleck's dour attitude in previous press appearances might not be entirely his fault. However, as the characters return in Zac Snyder's Justice League, out on Friday, the new costumes prominently reveal the actors's stomachs and chests. Affleck taking the role seriously fit the tone of the movie (and character) he was promoting.
