Firefox snags a new look and healthy speed boost in major update

If you're a Chrome user (or a Lifehacker reader), you're probably aware of how much memory the web browser uses. Quantum CSS leverages the multi-core processors in our modern computing rigs, parallelizing work across all cores. The result: a significant speed increase.

Below you'll see a demonstration video from Mozilla on what's happening within the new Firefox Quantum. Firefox 57 combines the address and search bars - for new installations at least; existing users who miss the latter can restore it - reduces the clutter at the top of the window, and debuts a reworked new tab page. To take advantage of its syncing features that ensure you can access your Firefox browsing history and other preferences on its iOS and Android apps, as you do with your Google account, you'll need a Firefox Account. This is in the form of Project Quantum, Mozilla has changed the soul of their open-source web browser.

With the launch of Firefox Quantum, Mozilla released what's probably the most important update to its browser in recent years. Three years ago, Mozilla switched from Google to Yahoo! If you don't, maybe it's time to give Mozilla's alternative browser another shot. Next year Mozilla will be working to improve these areas.

Chrome's USA market share has since doubled to about 60 percent, according to data from analytics provider StatCounter, with Mozilla, Apple Inc and Microsoft Corp browsers capturing the rest.

But will Firefox's remodel be enough to cause its share to, say, overtake Microsoft's declining Internet Explorer/Edge combination (with a 19.7% share last month), or erode Chrome's dominance (59.8%)?

Denelle Dixon, Mozilla's chief business and legal officer, said in a statement that the company had "exercised our contractual right to terminate our agreement with Yahoo based on a number of factors including doing what's best for our brand, our effort to provide quality web search and the broader content experience for our users". "It would have to be so unique". If you're not now using the browser, Firefox Quantum is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android via a free download.

Security and privacy are also a focus of Firefox Quantum.

"In a year from now, it will be the same all over again", Gold said, referring to Firefox's minor player status.
